sapp

We aim to enable anyone, anywhere in the world, to transform their surroundings into an abundant, edible, wildlife-supporting oasis of resilience.

sapp includes on-the-ground information and our lived experiential knowledge of the most valuable plants of all climates, complete with the experience of selected field experts across the world.

With this tool, you can address the nuances of your site and search for plants that suit best. Each plant contains a wealth of relevant information on how to manage, propagate, space, and use plants within a syntropic and permaculture context. You can save your favourite plants, design arrangements and add your own notes or leave a public comment.

Have some fun using the added manager, to design multiple forest layouts, ensuring every food forest planted is lush and abundant. There's a plant for every location, and this tool contains their relevant characteristics and how to work with them to grow forests (almost) anywhere!

Let the power of regeneration be in your hands.

Creators

From conception to construction, Frida Keegan and Josh Lotz, from PermaDynamics,
have worked alongside Teun Megens, of Illuworks, to bring to the world this hub of Syntropic knowledge.
Unlimited in possibilities we are so enthusiastic about Sapp, and wish you the best experience

PermaDynamics

Klaus Lotz of PermaDynamics has woven decades of accumulated research and personal experience into the majority of Sapp's content.
The concepts and terminology embedded in this tool's framework are based on the work of Ernst Götsch, founder of Syntropic Agroforestry, whom Klaus learned from in person during the years Klaus spent working alongside Götsch in the 1980s.
Klaus has over 35 years of teaching experience in Permaculture and Syntropic Agroforestry, having applied and worked with farmers across South America, Germany, and New Zealand.
Klaus holds a degree in Organic Agriculture from the University of Kassel in Germany and a diploma in Permaculture.

illuworks

Teun Megens, senior software developer, tech consultant, and Syntropic Agroforestry enthusiast, has custom-built and co-designed Sapp, presenting the wealth of knowledge it contains in a sleek, easy-to-use tool that invites engagement.

Teun has over 17 years of experience in this field and currently works from his own company, Illuworks. He specializes in helping organizations realize well-built, scalable software solutions.

Founders

sapp is founded on the framework of Syntropic Agroforestry and Permaculture. Both make up the foundations on which the information gathered is embedded into, the terminology used is predominantly from Syntropic Agroforestry concepts.

Syntropic Agroforestry

Ernst Götsch

Founded Syntropic Agroforestry in 1980, famously defined as a process that regenerates and enriches the environment by mimicking and enhancing natural ecological succession.

Permaculture

Bill Mollison and David Holmgren

Co-founded in 1970's, originally defined as an integrated, evolving system of perennial or self-perpetuating plant and holistic animal ecosystems.

Survival International

Syntropic Agroforestry and Permaculture owes much of its concepts to the indigenous wisdom of the world. This year we choose to donate 5% of proceeds to Survival International. From the Amazon to the Kalahari, from the jungles of India to the Congo rainforest, this organisation works in partnership with tribal peoples to support their way of life.

Wow, this tool really is going to be a game changer and so very useful. I love the way it's laid out with the Plants database and the Manager part. Both are going to be vital. This is one of those tools (like the mini chainsaw) that you never knew you needed until you have it!
Joanne Sharp, New Zealand
What a powerful and comprehensive tool, epic to have such an amount of information and wisdom in one place. Super helpful to assist in the planning, design and management of a Syntropic Food Forest specific to your particular climate.
